What is it?
Chia seeds are tiny edible seeds from the plant Salvia hispanica. They were an important food for ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs and Maya, and today they're popular because they're rich in nutrients and easy to add to meals.
Product Benefits
- 🌱 Supports digestion: Chia seeds are very high in fiber, which can help bowel regularity and support healthy gut bacteria.
- ❤️ Supports heart health: They contain ALA, a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. Their fiber may also contribute to healthier cholesterol levels.
- 🍽️ Helps you feel full: When soaked, chia seeds absorb liquid and form a gel. The combination of fiber, protein, and volume can increase fullness.
- 🦴 Provides important minerals: They contain calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and manganese, nutrients involved in maintaining bones and normal body functions.
- 💪 Adds plant-based protein: About 2 tablespoons (28 g) provide roughly 4–5 g of protein.
- 🩸 May help with blood-sugar control: The fiber can slow digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, which may help reduce sharp rises in blood glucose after meals.
- 🛡️ Contains antioxidants: Chia seeds provide compounds that help protect cells against oxidative stress.
Ways to consume
1. Chia water: Mix 1 tablespoon into a glass of water, stir well, and let it sit for about 10–20 minutes before drinking.
2. Chia pudding: Combine chia seeds with milk or plant milk and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight. Add fruit, nuts, or a little honey.
3. Overnight oats: Add 1 tablespoon to oats and milk before refrigerating overnight.
4. Yogurt: Stir chia seeds into yogurt and let them soften for several minutes.
5. Smoothies: Blend 1–2 teaspoons into your smoothie, or stir them in afterward.
6. Oatmeal or cereal: Sprinkle a small amount over cooked oatmeal or cereal.
7. Baking: Add them to muffins, pancakes, bread, or homemade energy bites.
8. Chia “egg”: For some baking recipes, mix 1 tablespoon chia seeds + 3 tablespoons water, wait about 10–15 minutes until gel-like, and use it in place of one egg.
